This month I want to highlight a blog post, The Technical Side of the Capital One AWS Security Breach, by J Cole Morrison. This post highlights the reason why Amazon hammers home the tenet that security matters in everything we do – the consequences of a security breach are far-reaching. As the article demonstrates – and as Amazon preaches – security doesn’t end at your service entry point, assume the bad actor is already in the system and minimize the blast radius. Although onerous at time, this Capital One breach reminds us that security matters.

“The ‘funny’ part about this breach is that if Capital One had plugged this hole from the get go…nothing else would’ve happened. And so, quite frankly, it’s always shocking to see something that’s really not that difficult become the sole reason for a company data breach.”
